Welcome to Bay Trail Middle School

Bay Trail Middle School, located in Penfield, a suburb of Rochester, NY, offers a unique learning experience for students in grades 6-8. The Bay Trail Middle School mission, in partnership with parents and the community, is to help students transition from elementary school to high school by providing a safe environment that adapts to each student’s unique, young adolescent needs. We do this to equip students with the skills and character traits that will enable them to become contributing members of the community. With an enrollment of over 1,000 students, Bay Trail is a large school, however, students benefit from a House system within the school which allows for a smaller, more family-oriented environment. Students remain in the same House throughout their middle school years, allowing teachers to get to know them well as they meet weekly to discuss each student's progress. Students also benefit from the school's learner-centered focus which seeks to help all students reach their academic potential through differentiated instruction. In addition to a wide variety of academic programs, Bay Trail offers students numerous opportunities in the arts, athletics and extracurricular activities.
