New York State’s ban on internet-enabled devices while students are in school aims to minimize classroom distractions, allowing students to concentrate better and engage more deeply.

• At the elementary level (PreK-5), student personal electronic devices may not be
brought to school. This includes the school bus.
• At the middle school level (6-8), student personal electronic devices must be powered
off and stored in their pouches upon entering the building.
• At the high school level (9-12), student personal electronic devices must be powered
off and stored in their pouches upon entering the building.

Both the Bay Trail Middle School and Penfield High School have sent communications regarding Yondr pouches and their usage. Please refer to your grade level administrator with additional questions.

The District will once again be offering free breakfast and lunch to all Penfield students, regardless of income. 

A fee will still be charged for items beyond the standard meals, including extra food and snacks. Families can use the MySchoolBucks system to pre-pay for food items and snacks. Instructions on how to register are available at www.myschoolbucks.com. Note: You will need your child’s Student ID number to register.

As always, parents can pre-pay for meals and a la carte snacks by sending in cash or check made out to Penfield School Lunch. Students can hand the cash or check to the cashier when going through the line and the money will be credited to their account. If sending in a check, please be sure your student(s) name is on the memo line. Please note that we do not give out change. (If you send your child with $5 cash and they purchase a snack, the change will be credited to their account for future use). 

Dietary Restrictions

If your student has dietary restrictions based on medical needs, it is possible to have accommodations made. Please contact the Food Service Office at 585-249-6483 for information and necessary paperwork.

If school must be closed because of weather conditions or other emergencies, the District will make the decision to close schools as early as possible. This information will be conveyed via ParentSquare, the District web site, and social media accounts, and the following TV stations: WROC Ch. 8, Spectrum Ch.9, WHEC Ch. 10, WHAM Ch. 13/FOX Ch.7. Area radio stations may also post the closings on their websites. 

If an emergency situation arises during the day, dismissal will be communicated using the same methods. Parents must have an emergency plan in case they are not home when schools close as students will be dropped off at their normal bus stop. The plan must be discussed with children so they will know where to go and what to do if they arrive home during the day if no adult is present. A neighbor or relative who is named in an emergency plan should be aware that he or she has been named.
