Board of Education Workshop Explores Next Steps in Strategic Planning Process
During a Board of Education workshop held this evening, Penfield Central School District shared an update on the next phase of its strategic planning process, highlighting opportunities for meaningful community engagement and collaboration.
Members of the Penfield community are invited to share their vision and hopes for the District’s new strategic plan during Community Design Day, to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, at Penfield High School. All interested residents of Penfield are invited to attend, including students, families, staff, alumni, community members, and local employers.
Over the past six months, Penfield has engaged with the ILO Group to solicit feedback through surveys and focus groups about student, employee, and community member perceptions and experiences with the District to help inform strategic planning. Community Design Day is an interactive chance for community members to share their thoughts and opinions on the future of Penfield, offering perspectives on academics, inclusivity and diversity, student well-being, and community engagement, among other topics.

“The strategic plan belongs to everyone at Penfield and Community Design Day provides a venue for us to come together and generate ideas that will launch us into the future,” said Dr. Tasha Potter, superintendent of the District. “Community voice plays an essential role in shaping a strategic plan that reflects the values and aspirations of our students and families.”
Community Design Day will kick off with a light breakfast and remarks from Potter and members of the ILO Team. Attendees will then break into small group discussions facilitated by District administrators, students, and staff with the purpose of sharing ideas and perspectives around what success looks like for Penfield’s future, practical paths forward, and indicators of progress. During lunch, a gallery wall will feature all the shared ideas, offering a chance for attendees to see the breadth and depth of discussions and offer additional feedback. The day will close with final reflections.
Community input gathered during the event will be carefully reviewed and used to refine the District’s strategic plan, which is expected to be released in mid-spring 2026 and will outline Penfield’s goals, priorities, and strategies for the next five years.
To help with planning, please RSVP by completing the Community Design Day Registration Form by Tuesday, Feb. 24. For questions, email Mahreen Mustafa George, executive director for strategic innovation and student engagement, at mmustafageorge@penfield.edu.
