PHS Reopens Newly Renovated Library
With large floor-to-ceiling windows, bright lights, colorful displays of books, and comfortable, modular furniture, it’s easy to see why students flock to Penfield High School’s newly redesigned library.
The renovations were part of the District’s 2021 Capital Improvement Project, and included a complete remodel of the space. The library now boasts two large sections that house its collection of books, modular seating and space for students to collaborate or engage in independent study, four rooms for small group meetings or classes, and a multimedia classroom. The renovations also created a new area for the IT Help Desk for students.
During a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially reopen the space, Dr. Tasha Potter, Superintendent, offered her thanks to the project’s many partners, including Campus Construction Management Group, SEI Design Group, and M/E Engineering. She also expressed gratitude to Assistant Superintendent for Business & Finance, Dr. Dan Driffill, Director of Facilities, Mr. George English, Penfield High School Principal, Mrs. LeAnna Watt, and Penfield High School Library Media Specialist, Ms. Lisa Edborg, for their guidance and support throughout the renovation.
“School libraries are special places. They offer space for students to learn and grow. Space for students to collaborate in groups or study in quiet corners. Libraries – and the books, collections, and resources held within – can challenge us to think differently, discover new knowledge, and broaden our understanding of the world around us,” said Potter. “This space will positively impact Penfield students well into the future, and we are excited to see it be filled with their curiosity and their energy.”
