Penfield Continuously Seeks Specialized and Differentiated Learning for All Adults
The Office of Professional Learning continues its commitment to providing rich, engaging, and ongoing professional learning experiences grounded in best practices for teaching and learning. Our goal is to equip faculty and staff with the tools needed to foster an environment of continuous professional growth. This work reflects our dedication to supporting and enhancing an equitable school community where students of all backgrounds feel valued, respected, seen, and heard.
Every member of Team Penfield plays a vital role in student success. For that reason, we continuously seek to expand our offerings to meet the diverse needs of adult learners.
Recently, Dr. Davne’ McGee facilitated an abbreviated Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training for District bus drivers. This hands-on, discussion-based session allowed transportation staff to collaboratively explore what it means to be trauma-informed and to view behavior as a form of communication.
“We are optimistic that this training will lead to additional opportunities in the future,” said Kevin Marriott, Director of Professional Learning.
The District’s differentiated monthly New Faculty Orientation meetings have also evolved to meet specific needs. For example, a partnership with Monroe #1 BOCES is providing several new special education teachers with guidance and training on Read&Write, a literacy support software designed to assist students with reading, writing, and comprehension.
Additionally, new mental health professionals are working with the University of Rochester Community Consultation Program. This specialized professional development is aimed at strengthening and maintaining the skills of teams serving individuals with educational and behavioral needs.
“We look forward to welcoming new ideas and creating varied learning opportunities for all adults for initiatives that align with Penfield’s mission, vision, beliefs, and commitments,” Marriott said. “Together, we continue to build a culture of growth that benefits both educators and students.
