District Names New Assistant Superintendent for Equity & Access

The Penfield Central School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Maycanitza Pérez as the new Assistant Superintendent for Equity & Access, pending Board of Education approval at its Aug. 13 meeting. She takes over for Dr. Tasha Potter, who has been named as the new Superintendent for the district as of Sept.1.

Ms. Pérez currently serves as a vice principal at the East Educational Partnership Organization (EPO) in the Rochester City School District. She previously served as the Executive Director of the Eugenio Maria de Hostos Charter School and as the Freshman Academy Director at East High School. Her previous experience also includes serving as a program administrator for the Roberto Clemente Expeditionary Learning School and as an acting principal and program administrator in the Rochester City School District. Ms. Pérez also spent six years as a Spanish teacher in RCSD.

“As a Latina, I understand firsthand the power of representation and the importance of equity and access in education,” Ms. Pérez said. “My mission is to ensure that every student, regardless of their heritage or circumstances, feels seen, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential. Penfield UNIDOS,” she added.

Ms. Pérez holds her administrative certification from the University of Rochester, her master’s degree in education with a concentration in secondary education and Spanish from the University of Rochester, and her bachelor’s degree in Spanish, also from the University of Rochester.

She will begin her new position as of Sept. 16.
