Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month: Sept. 15-Oct. 15 2024

Dear Penfield Community,

We are excited to announce that Penfield Central School District will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, 2024. This month-long celebration honors the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans, recognizing the deep influence these communities have on our nation's history, arts, and achievements.

This year's national theme is "Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together." It highlights the significant impact Hispanic Americans have had, and continue to have, in shaping the future of our country.

Throughout the month, our schools will be hosting a variety of activities, educational events, and cultural showcases that reflect the rich heritage and diversity within our community. We invite students, staff, and families to participate in these celebrations, which will include:

· Building Based activities and Classroom Lessons that explore Hispanic history and achievements

· Community Free events:

Hispanic Heritage Celebration Day

Date: Sunday, October 6
Time: 12pm-5pm
Location: Memorial Art Gallery
Details: Enjoy free museum admission, community and cultural tables, live dances and music, performances and presentations around Hispanic countries. Experience storytelling, arts & crafts, a youth performance, and more. Our spotlight country this year is Peru! This year’s theme is “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together.”

 

Hispanic Heritage Link Gallery Opening Reception

Location: City Hall Link Gallery, 30 Church Street
Details: Join us for an inspiring evening featuring the work of Manuel Rivera-Ortiz, a renowned Puerto Rican photographer. His social documentary photography captures the essence of life in less developed nations. Manuel splits his time between Rochester, New York, and Zurich.

 

Hispanic Heritage Musical Performance – Opera in the City

Title: Raíces y Ritmos: Celebrating Hispanic Heritage

Details: Immerse yourself in the rich sounds of a special operatic performance in our lengua materna right in the heart of the city.
