Updated COVID-19 Guidelines

IF YOUR CHILD EXHIBITS SYMPTOMS ASSOCIATED WITH COVID-19:

PCSD follows the CDC guidance for return to school after students or staff members exhibit symptoms associated with COVID-19.

If your child is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please keep them home and follow the CDC Guidelines. They should return to school when they meet the following criteria:

  1. Exhibit significant improvement of symptoms
  2. Are fever-free for at least 24 hrs. without fever-reducing medication

Mandated Years for Health Exams and Screening

  • Health examinations are required in grades PreK or K, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11.
  • Vision screening for distance and near vision acuity will be required within 6 months of admission to school and in grades Pre K or K, 1, 3, 5, 7, and 11.
  • Hearing screening utilizing pure tone testing is required within 6 months of admission to school and in grades Pre K or K, 1, 3, 5, 7, and 11.
  • Scoliosis screening is required in grades 5 and 7 for girls and grade 9 for boys.
  • Students entering grades 9, 10 and 12 must have the MenACWY Vaccine to start school.
  • Please contact us with any concerns you may have regarding your child's health.  Please remind your child to report to the Health Office if they are not feeling well or have been injured. The student should consult the school nurse before making a determination about going home. If you child is ill or injured and cannot fully participate in school activities, please have the doctor write a note for the nurse.

  •  A new medication form with your signature AND the physician’s signature, is required every school year. This applies to prescription and non-prescription medication and also for those students who carry inhalers or Epi-Pens.  We recommend having an extra inhaler or Epi-Pen in our office in case your child forgets to bring it to school on any given day. Both prescription and non-prescription medication must be in the original container, labeled with current dosage and time with a small current picture attached. All prescription medications must be delivered and picked up by a parent, not a student.

  • If your child has a well-child physical, please be sure to request a copy for the school nurse. NYS requires physicals for 9th and 11th graders, but all physicals are welcome throughout the year!!  Refer to the links below for more information.

  •  If your child receives any immunizations please ask for a copy for the school nurse. The Department of Health has a list of immunizations required by NYS for school attendance.

  • Your child will be screened by the school nurse during the school year for vision, hearing and scoliosis and required by NYS Law. If the Health Office has a current physical on file and the physician has performed the required screen, the nurse does not need to screen your child.

  • Students who wish to participate in sports must have an updated physical exam, good for 12 months and a tetanus vaccine less than 10 years old, on file in the Health Office.  Sports registrations are to be completed on-line through FamilyID.  Registration opens 30 days prior to the start of each sport/season.

It is important for the school to be able to communicate with parents by phone in the event of an emergency, or regarding an injury or illness. Therefore, it is important that parents keep their emergency contact information current at all times. Parents have the ability to view their contact information by going to our website and clicking on the IC Parent Portal link under Quick Links on the left side of the Home Page. Parents who discover that information is outdated should contact the High School Main Office to notify them of any changes.
